SECL Marks Gandhi Jayanti with Swachh Bharat Diwas; 165+ Events, 100 Safai Mitras Honoured
Raipur chhattisgarh VISHESH South Eastern Coalfields Limited (SECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited (CIL), will conclude its annual ‘Swachhata Hi Seva’ campaign with Swachh Bharat Diwas celebrations on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2. The initiative, held across Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, has emerged as a collective movement of employees, communities, and sanitation workers, reinforcing the Government of India’s Special Campaign 5.0.

This year, SECL undertook extensive cleanliness drives at 45 designated Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and 14 major public spaces, while conducting over 165 awareness and outreach events. From cultural programmes to scrap-to-art competitions, the campaign actively engaged employees, school children, Safai Mitras and local residents.
A highlight of the campaign was the “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” drive held on September 25 at Chhat Ghat, where over 100 volunteers cleaned public water bodies and religious sites. The initiative, replicated across all SECL areas, marked the fifth consecutive year of community-led Ghat cleaning, symbolising continuity and trust.
Equally significant was the ‘Safai Mitra Samman Samaroh’, where SECL honoured 100 sanitation workers at its Bilaspur headquarters on September 27, recognising their indispensable role in maintaining public hygiene. Health camps and wellness sessions were also organised for Safai Mitras as part of the welfare focus.
Under the banner “Swacchotsav 2025”, SECL organised a two-day Ayurvedic Neurotherapy and Panchkarma camp from September 26–27, offering therapies such as neurotherapy, fire needle treatment, blood cupping, leech therapy, and Panchkarma to both Safai Mitras and employees.
Community connect remained strong throughout the campaign, with Rangoli competitions, street plays, and creative contests on recycling and reuse amplifying the message of cleanliness and sustainability.
From October 3, SECL will shift to the implementation phase of Special Campaign 5.0, intensifying cleanliness and scrap disposal drives, addressing pending grievances, and strengthening record management to promote efficiency, transparency and effective waste handling across its offices.
